Niladri is a professionally qualified wine enthusiast and wine & food writer, playing his little part in the intricate but fascinating world of wine. He has been associated with the wine and hospitality industries for more than 15 years. His last two stints saw him driving marketing initiatives for India’s largest wine importer Brindco and sales efforts at Maritime & Mercantile International (MMI). Prior to that as ITC Hotels’ Corporate Beverage Manager – Wines, he was responsible for conducting highly successful wine program for the entire chain.
Niladri’s career highlight was his stint as the wine specialist and quality controller of wine information at Wine-Searcher.com, world’s foremost search engine for wines and wine information site.
As a keen writer and blogger, he has written about a wide range of topics related to wine and food. His articles related to the contemporary wine world, in addition to those affecting the Indian scenario, have often been described as ‘compelling’ and ‘thought-provoking’.
Niladri pursued his wine interests in New Zealand for more than five years before returning back to his roots in India in March 2011. Over the years, his passion for wine has driven him to acquire relevant qualifications in Winemaking & Viticulture, Wine & Spirits Education Trust’s (WSET) Level 4 Diploma, the WSET Level 3 Advanced Certificate and he is a Certified Sommelier by Court of Master Sommeliers. He also has a three years’ Degree in Hospitality Management.
This wine professional holds a very global view on wines and recognises the merits (and occasional demerits) of both Old and New World wines. He is a particular fan of the Rhone Valley reds and whites from Alsace and Germany (Rieslings).
Apart from keeping abreast to wine industry trends, wine education & training, wine writing and sampling wines, Niladri’s other areas of interest lie in world politics, quizzing, soccer, rugby and professional networking. As an avid traveler he has been to many countries around the world which has added to his wine and food experience.
Niladri is a member of various wine tasting panels across India, prominent among which is the Sommelier India tasting panel. He has also contributed as a wine writer to many wine and food related websites.
Lastly, this wine enthusiast’s dream is to see India among the world’s top wine destinations and wishes to play a meaningful role in achieving this goal.
